Infidelity of court…Courtly Love
What constitutes a significant-enough breach of a relationship to be considered infidelity? What is considered a blatant violation of the implicit good faith contract of a typical sexually-intimate relationship? A betrayal of core shared values with which the integrity and nature of the relationship is defined? Even if the actions undertaken are not technically sexual in nature?
Those were the questions that spurred the fluids in his mind as he reflected upon relationships. He could only assume a woman’s infidelity, or worse, adultery. There was no proof, nor would a man seek it out. He knew of two intimacies; the physical intimacy and the emotional intimacy.
Growing up hard, He had steeled himself in past relationships against emotional intimacy, but often indulged in the physical intimacy. And when he was married, he allowed his barriers to emotional intimacy to be lowered, thus opening his heart and mind to betrayal, lies, and disloyalty. One difficulty to realize was the act of infidelity varying between and within cultures... for she was of one culture, while he is from another.
Emotional infidelity… the emotional involvement with another person, a process which leads one’s partner to channel emotional resources, such as romantic love, time, and attention, to someone else. Emotional infidelity, as compared to physical infidelity, can inflict as much, if not more, hurt, pain and suffering. To make matters worse, most infidelity involves both physical and emotional betrayal.
He describes the sensations that people experience when going through infidelity. They often experience feeling torn concerning their loyalties. They often talk of feeling like something was ripped out of them. There is also the whole incestuous aspect of the actions that makes the second version more distasteful. Although it is not spoken of polite circles, within some families, there are some incestuous twists that accompany infidelity. Intimacy with the brother-in-law, sister-in-law or other close relations, happens more often than people often want to admit.
