Vanora
......
......
Vanora was born an only child; the daughter of a simple carpenter in a village near Hadrian's Wall. She spent days mostly alone with her mother; always yearned for siblings, and not being the sole victim of her father’s wrath; a man who had a violent temper and sometimes yelled at his daughter for no reason, save his own enjoyment. Over time, she came to accept the fact that life obviously was not much more than quarrels and bruises.
At the age of sixteen, she accompanied her mother to the market to sell some small wood products of her father’s, as well as some various pottery, where she met her future husband. Despite the fact that they disregarded him at first as a drunken boor, Vanora developed a never-ending enthusiasm for Bors. It seemed her father was not very sympathetic to her mother, but considered it a very positive match for his lowly daughter; especially in the fact, that the Knights of Hadrian’s Wall enjoyed a large popularity.
After a relatively short time, the marriage was concluded and a child born. In the following years, a considerable number of further children followed. During the time between pregnancies, she usually worked in taverns, in close proximity of her man, who, as was all friends, enjoyed his drink.
Vanora has never too busy to educate her children, or care for her man, while working in the Tavern.
With a body size of somewhat more than five feet three inches and, however, with a finely proportionate shape, Vanora would not necessarily stand out from the usual. The finely drawn, almost girlish, face is characterized in particular by one certainty, despite her gentle nature, with clear, light-blue eyes, has an unfathomable fire that seems to habitually blaze.
This contrast almost harmonically accentuates the true splendor of dark-blonde curls, which falls down upon delicate shoulders. She usually wears a bright dress from simple lines, mainly a wide skirt and wide sleeves distinguished by a dark vest. Simple, dark wool woven in itself is characterized by simple, ornate embroidery in natural colors. The comfortable outfit maintains a narrow shape even when she is pregnant.
Vanora is by no means one of those tender heart-strung women; given the bawdy humor of Bors and the rest of Arthur´s men embarrassing antics. She can handle much of their teasing, while being patient - to put it politely - caring for her man. The loving care she received from her mother, and the abuse by her father, in her childhood, is constantly revisited, as she shies away from raising a hand against one of their children… and allows no man the same. At the same time, she is the dormant side of a particular level of reasoning, not usually found in a family. But matched to her husband’s reasoning, with a love that – can be overlooked – two sides of the same argument usually leads to disputes where her dialog makes even the insensitive man blush.
She is relatively an intelligent woman, blessed with the knowledge to read and write, and a special talent in dealing with numbers… especially with money; passing the knowledge to all of her children. She spends a lot of time with their children, instilling a certain fondness for poetry and folk songs. Those songs, usually sung with a hint of melancholy, a fact inherent in her voice. She tends to have a certain fondness for the British weather, above all, the rain.
For almost fifteen years, Vanora shrugs off a little drinking and rebel-rousing, her husband and other men that sometimes do and laughs at them for not remember how much money they now owed for wine and mead.
