Brego History
For countless years, the Saxon sects of Eunixi, Ravennes, and Frisii fought a war amongst one another that seemed to never end. Generations grew up under warlike conditions, men, young and old died for feud many did not remember or never knew. Still the years waned one after another. Many warriors like Agamemnon, of the Ravenes followed his King into battle, and watched many brethren die… still Agamemnon asked nothing of his King.
Fourscore generations of blood and strife must come now to an end. If you do not cease this war, your kingdom, and those of Saxony, will see its downfall. The lines of your house will be merged with that of your Roman enemy, and the bastard children of that union will destroy our ways forever… Heed my words, foolish king! Lest your blood cease to walk this earth for all time.
Agamemnon stood beside his King, his long sword used as a prop for weary arms to lean upon, as he watched his King denounce the soothsayer and sent her hither from his sight. With nothing more than a whisper, Agamemnon asked permission to speak; then he leaned to his King and spoke… “My King, the prophecy has been told… you cannot go against the prophecy…”
Of course, such a statement, even though from a loyal warrior and friend, did not set well with the King, and Agamemnon was severely reprimanded, ordered to never question his Majesty again, and sent from the King’s favor. Once more Agamemnon was sent into battle, this time with a doubt of the King’s reasoning and the future of the Realm. In a battle that nearly decimated his unit, Agamemnon, badly wounded, made his way to safety.
Day and night, mile after mile, he wandered, dragging the limp leg that held such a wound… Deep into a sprawling assemblage of dark, twisted trees he found himself able to go no further, he lay on the cold damp ground listening to sounds that seem to haunt his memory. He knew he was in the Ravennes Dark Woods.
When the warrior seemed to give up hope, he was found by some woodmen and carried to their village near the Sendicium Road. Now counted as one of the dead and missing, Agamemnon disappeared from Ravennes never to fight again. Though he heard rumors of the numerous battles that lead to the destruction of lower Saxony by the Romans… he was glad he was not among them… but the warrior cried when news of the King’s death came to the village. That was twenty odd years ago.
In those 20 years, Agamemnon of the Ravennes, healed, and became a woodsmen, like those of the village, providing the prized wood of the Forest to those who desired the cut and polished wood that was so dark and durable. And as a woodsman, he met a woman named Gailraen, who gave him two children, a daughter Gilean, and a son Brego. Agamemnon had hid his true identity from his village, especially his wife, son, and daughter. He taught his son the ways of the forest and nature, but never the way of the sword. Brego grew up learning the bow but was considered a misfit and socially awkward by those who know him, but finds solace in the love of his Mother, Gailraen. Agamemnon had wanted Brego to inherit no lands nor fortune, but to make his own way in life. But that fateful day changed Brego’s life forever.
While he is away from the village chopping wood, a party of slavers, comes to the village and killed or enslaved everyone they find, including his Mother and sister, Gilean.
By the time Brego sees the smoke billowing into the sky and returns to the village, the slavers, his mother, sister, and every female worth taking was gone… all that remained was the burning village and the bodies of dead men and old women. Finding his Father, he drops to his knees holding the old man’s hand. With his dying breath, Brego's father, Agamemnon, tells him of his past and what had occurred and places his bloody sword into the boy’s hand. “Avenge me boy…”
Unbeknownst to Brego, his Father was Agamemnon of the Ravennes, a fabled warrior, and Adlige der Sieben Sterne, #Lord of the Seven Stars#. Scavenging the village for anything he could use, saving his own house for last. In a scorched chest in his own burned house, Brego finds his father’s breastplate with the White Tree with Seven Stars & a Crown on a black field, the House emblem.
Knowing now his true identity and such knowledge, put his life in danger. For the next 5 years, Brego travelled to the far reaches of the land… Places like Gaul, Hispania, and Avaricum #Bourges# … In those places he travelled, he began to learn… And learn he did. From various sages and mentors over the years in the varied places, he learned to compose verse, to read and write, to wait at table, to play a musical instrument and to care for horses and hunting animals, like hawks and hounds. He learned how to carve different types of meat at a table, to maintain his weapons and harness, to ride properly and how to train and maintain warhorses. He also learned to help the ladies of the household in their duties, and time spent in feminine company that would help develop courtesy and manners. But most importantly, he learned how to use the sword, spear, and bow. He was descended from a true warrior of the Saxon clans, and he knew, one day, the time would come for him to fulfill his destiny.
Time would tell, and Brego’s travels would take him to Britain…[/color]
