Leon and Sophia
Camelot Castle
Ianuarius, 469 AD
Leon
Leon watched with mild humor as the young pair of squires practiced with their wooden swords. Their diligence reminded him of himself when he was a lad. Golden, uneven bangs flopped haphazardly into the wind as his gloved left hand pressed casually against the hilt of his sword. The scoff of dismissal pitched freely out of another knight's mouth warranted him a smooth frown by Camelot's second knight.. With Lancelot attending to the Commander the training and decisions landed within his lap.. To which was nothing he ever took to lightly. "One never achieves from giving up" He whispered low to the smaller of the two who had tumbled to his knees at the Knight's high boots. Thin lips moved into a grin and the Leon pulled away from the circle to venture along the courts over grown field.
Sophia
Sophia bustled thru the courtyard her basket of vegtables for the kitchen balanced on her hip, she stalled watching the young men work their wooden swords against each other , she smiled as she watched them thinking of her own brothers, when they were younger training at being knights...slaying dragons and Romans with equal gusto of boys who had never known death... It was at that moment that a ray of golden sunlight shone thru the normal gloom of the day, to lighted upon her head like a halo of sorts... spotlighting the long golden mass of waves, on the Vegtable Farmers daughter
Leon
Movement was caught almost imminently out of the corner of his eye when the young woman approached. A thin brow arched as a faint smile carved the corners of his lips. " My lady" It seemed she had her hands full.. No doubt she was heading for the kitchens. " I think you dropped one.." He crouched down to bounce up an apple back within the palm of his right hand to extend forward at her.
Sophia
"ohhh How clumsy of me " she smiled brilliantly at him, balancing the laden basket on one hip, so she could use her other hand to take the apple from him..." Thank you Kind Sir " eyes the color of the summer sky turned up to him form her diminitive height, there was a soft blush on her cheeks.. " I shouldn't have dwadled, but watching the young Knights train, I couldn't resist " her tone was light and melodic, a ray of sunlight in the dreary courtyard where steel clanged constantly
Leon
Clumsy? No he accused the fallen apple to be due to the fact that the bushel was stacked a bit to high. He noticed the blush but only offered her a faint, almost calming smile. " They have improved believe it or not since even last week" His tone was appreciative to their dedication. "I'm Leon, my lady at your service" He nobly bowed his blonde head toward her after he side stepped to allow her view of the sparring squires.
Sophia
"Well met Sir Leon " she dimpled a curtsey toward him, akward considering she bore the basket of fruit and vegetables... "Sophia, From the Village.. My Papa owns the vegetable market.. we supply the kitchens.. " she was babbling but it was a nice thing to hear a feminine voice admist so many soilders and warriors.. " I should get on... the Cook will be wondering "
Leon
So he was right to assume she was heading for the kitchens.. Her modest gown was of little notice in terms of station she bore in courtly society. He believed in equality.. No man or woman was above the other. He supposed those attributes was how he earned the nickname Just among his comrades. "Its very nice to meet you, Lady Sophia and thank you for supplying our kitchens" He chuckled deep within the pit of his throat. She was right to assume her presence was appreciative.. It was much more flattering than to over look sweaty men! "Would you like assistance?" Her slender frame didn't seem to balance the basket all that well.
Sophia
Her big blue eyes widened even more if possible.. "OHhh I'm no lady " she demured.. " Not near one.. not Like our Lady Guinevere.. " she blushed again and dipped her head.. " No No I've handled such things all my life.. I'm stronger than I appeard " she dimpled at him and begin to walk toward the kitchens.. and halfway across the courtyard she turned halfway to cast a look over her shoulder at him once more.. then she was off to the kitchens "
Leon
He blinked and gave instant pause by the manner in which she corrected him.... Was she not a lady? " You and the Lady Guinevere are of the feminine kind... So which case you ARE a Lady" He smiled and extended large hands for the wicker basket. But when she adamantly denied he nodded and stepped back. "I've no doubt you are quite stronger than you look" He issued her an upward nod. Letting her continue to her chores and head into the kitchen.
Sophia
Her business in the kitchens took less than ten minutes total, and she was back crossing the courtyard swinging the now empty basket almost childlike.. she paused to pet a hunting hound on the head and then continued toward the bailey gates...
Leon
By the time Sophia had returned from the kitchen Sir Leon was leaning against a willow tree along side two other knights.. Each men were munching on pears that had been discarded on the ground. Spatting out the bruised pieces and continuing with their discussion. The towering blonde didn't happen to notice the lass venture by.. Which explained why he didn't utter a word to her.
Knight/ Sophia
"now there is a ripe fruit I'd like to pluck " one of the pear munching Knights spoke to the group under the willow.. and some of the others agreed and or laughed at the comment... " I wonder if she needs and escort back to the farm " the dark haired knights brow lifted and he stood off his lean against the tree... whisteling as he started out behind the lass... but staying just far enough behind not to spook her Sophia moved like a willow in a spring wind, swaying and free as she walked... heading home humming softly her mind somewhere on Knights and Swords.. and the golden Haired.. Leon.. Sir Leon.. what a wonderful name
Leon
He gave pause upon the drastic change of subject and of whom the others had shifted their hungry eyes upon.. Breath deeply filled his lungs as pale green depths reflected her lovely visage. "Stand down, Tomas..." Authority stole hard in his deep words. " We are knights of Camelot... Not common thieves chasing skirts" He growled and shoved forward to roughly pin back the other man so that he could progress ahead of them. "Please excuse them.. They aren't accustomed to looking upon beauty" He grinned and allowed her to pass without trouble of the other knights.
Sophia
She had not noticed the hubbub being in her own world of wonderment, and then he was there.. speaking to her.. " Of Course Sir Leon.. Of course.. and then she near choked, blushing darkly.. beauty.. surely he jested.. no great Knight of Camelot would look at a lwly merchants daughter.. as a beauty... surely he was jesting... " No Harm Sir.. I'm just on my way home.. " obviously... she felt all out of sorts... suddenly...
Leon
Camelot's Second knight never said anything that wasn't truthful.. It was one of his many attributes that oft enraged the other knights. Then she blushed again and he tilted his head curiously. Ill accustomed himself to having such effect on her. " It was very nice meeting you once more.. Fair eve" Pulling backward he would give her no further reason for remaining in the field. The last thing he wanted was for her to feel uncomfortable. It didn't quite suit his nature. Thankfully the town wasn't all that far away and the guards passing in the towers would be watchful if something were to go amiss. It was the interesting balance of relation between the knights and castle guards.
Sophia
"Fair Eve Sir Leon.. you are very well met.. When next you are in Town perhaps you would stop by the market for a decent pear and not that bruised thing.. or even an Apple?" now she smiled at him with and cherubs smile..
Leon
Well she did have a point. The fruit within the palm of his hand was a wretched piece and almost imminently was discarded as she brought mention of it. " I think I will take you up on your offer... Thank you" Now it was his turn to feel a bit ...Awkward.. The laugh was almost shy?
Sophia
"There is all this talk in the village of a new game. The young boys ride broom horses and chase at each other. I think they try to be knights more and more each day.." she chattered as he walked with her toward the village... she was a energetic burst of spontinaty " I cannot wait till the first ones I think it will be such a fantastic thing.. to see.. Knights in all their finery and the horses.. the crowd roaring... waving pennets... it's all so.. wonderful "
Leon
That had him laughing.. The mere visual of young boys riding broom horses and chasing one another about. Even he used to do that as a young lad. But it was a smooth, closed lipped endearment. Admiring her for her energetic nature. It reminded him of the wind itself. " War's not quite as glamorous I'm afraid but at least we as men are looked better upon when we return.. That accounts for something" His smooth words housed empathy and remorse for the death and lives taken that he'd endured along side the Commander. " But nevertheless I would like very much to see this game you speak of.. To attest at how accurate they are in mimicking us" He delivered her to the gate that lead straight into the heart of the markets. "...Sophia.. Merchants daughter or not you ARE a lady I'd bet my very life on that" He saluted her and pulled away so she could slip through the fence.
Sophia
She grinned at him as he delivered her to the gate and swung it open for her to pass.. " Ohhh your welcome to come in.. pick your own fruit... we have many things to delight. The children usually begin their chase as the sun falls. If you stay then perhaps you will have a chance to see it tonight. " ever the merchants daughter, she urged him on.. going to the back door of the merchants cottage... " Come on silly " she waved him toward her, " And watched your head.. your to tall for the cottage door " and then her homespun skirts wafted into the cottage.
Leon
Tempting a man with food and the promise of a new activity... Such a devilish game she was playing herself! But he wouldn't be so foolish to admit he wasn't intrigued. Perhaps in watching these boys it would spark his own interest. Leon was a man with an innovative mind. Exhaling a soft breath he nodded in acceptance then quickly shifted a glance over the shoulder before agreeing to step onto her porch and into her house. Well.. She didn't exactly remind him quite in time to mind his head.. Thunk! Squinting one eye he grunted a low sigh while stumbling through the threshold. " I suppose I deserved that..." He was being uncharaistically clumsy. "Weren't you using those apples for something else? I would feel guilty"
Sophia
She moved about the tiny kitchen with such effiency, taking down the tea pot and filling it with the leafy mellow tea that was such a luxury, " It's good isnt' it.. I had one this morning and it was so juicy and sweet " she settled the cups on the table as well as the pot, then settled across from him... taking u a plum and bringing it to her lips, making a little sound of appreciation of it's taste " Ohhh this is good too.. here taste " she leaned over the table offering him a bite from the opposite side she had bitten
Leon
Slightly taken aback by this familiarity he shifted away his gaze of her to favor the window and the swaying leaves filtering about in the breeze. While allotting her privacy to glide about he considered the other knights and the reports he and Lancelot were to have council with his 'brother', the Commander about in the morning. Then his golden head turned back as she mentioned the fruit.. "You were right.. It is much better than those on the ground" Left hand raised to toast her with the peach before crunching more on it. When she settled his cup in front of him he nodded.. Offering her gratification in the animated hue of his eyes. Unlike Lancelot flattery wasn't something Camelot's Second Knight was so very accustomed to. Or at least HE thought so.. Truth be told he wasn't overly fond of plums and when she stretched across the table he dumbly straightened for a few seconds.. Studying her curiously. Did she expect him to take the fruit or.... Eat it from her hand?
Sophia
"you don't like plums?" she queried.. tilting her head at him with a similarly curious look " More for me " she grinned then pulled the offered fruit back to her lips for another bite.. the kettle was ready and she poured them both a steaming cup ' Honey?" she offered from a crock that held honeycomb and all sliding it across to him with a delicate hand.. " what will your colors be when you joust?"
Leon
" I prefer the peach" He smiled at her as she peeled away and stood to venture back to the whistling kettle. "But thank you none the less for offering" There was something about her that was... Infectious. He'd never quite met a woman so vibrant as she was. Right hand extended to grasp around the handle.. But he tilted up his head when she uttered the word honey.. It actually took him a second to realize she was asking if he wanted it in his tea! "I would... Yes.." Thank you.. He felt like he was saying that to much tonight to her!
